Last night saw our first hill climbing session out at Culloden Moor. Numbers were originally looking promising but a number of people withdrew due to unexpected commitments. Of the six that went along, four of us left from Nairn, meeting Alan and Alistair at the Keppoch.
I was joined in Nairn at the links by John, George and Paul. We kept a steady pace into a bit of a headwind out to Culloden. When we met with Alan and Alistair we went for the viaduct climb then round to Nairnside. From there it was off down tower road to take on the Balloch Hill. From the Keppoch again we went past Clava Cairns and up the Ross’s Garage climb. That was a nice one to finish the main session. We would have taken on a couple more but light was starting to fade. The Nairn riders then split from the Culloden boys and we headed back for Nairn.
The ride back to Nairn felt effortless with the wind behind us and being predominantly downhill. Speeds rarely dropped below 20mph on the ride home.
We had great weather for the ride and it was a pleasure to have John joining us on his holidays, up from his Doncaster base. He had some excellent advice on how things were run at his club and it was great to have some positive outside input. Hopefully we can implement some of his ideas as the club develops.
Next ride is the Social Sunday. Blow away the cobwebs after games day with a gentle ride! See you there!
Stats for last night:
Distance: 40.1 miles
Average Speed: 15.4mph
Total vertical ascent: 2300ft
A great ride and good effort from all in attendance! ?
